Is AI gradually replacing teachers?

lvlvlvbao

On May 30 this year, after launching GPT-4, OpenAI once again announced the launch of a dedicated version for colleges and universities - ChatGPT Edu. This is the first time that OpenAI has officially entered the education field under the ChatGPT brand since establishing cooperation with Khan Academy in 2023.

So far, artificial intelligence has penetrated into every aspect of our lives. Understanding your preferences, planning the best driving route for you... Until the advent of ChatGPT, artificial intelligence seemed to have truly entered the education industry.

In his latest book, A New Language in Education, Salman Khan points out that artificial intelligence will fundamentally reshape the education system and create a future where everyone can enjoy a world-class education.

With the rise of artificial intelligence, workers in various industries are being replaced. Will educators also face the risk of being replaced?

Possibility of being replaced

Education is a special field that includes both "teaching" and "education" . "Teaching" refers to the transfer of knowledge , that is, teaching students what they already know. AI may do a better job in this area; while "education" involves the cultivation of character , including motivating students in terms of emotions, attitudes and values through precepts and deeds, and cultivating a complete personality. This part of the work is difficult for AI to replace because it involves the warmth and wisdom of teachers.

Emotional support and care

Teachers not only impart knowledge , but also provide emotional support and encouragement . They are able to understand students' emotions, motivations, and needs, helping them build confidence and overcome setbacks in learning. AI lacks true empathy and cannot provide humane care like teachers.

Cultivate creativity and critical thinking

Teachers are good at stimulating students' creativity and critical thinking , and guiding students to think deeply through open-ended questions, interactive discussions, and inquiry-based learning. This ability requires a high degree of flexibility and interpersonal understanding , which is difficult for AI to achieve.

Guidance of ethics and values

Teachers not only impart academic knowledge, but also play an important role in shaping students' moral values and values. They help students understand responsibility , respect , and social justice , and this kind of humanistic education goes beyond the computing power of AI.

Personalized guidance and feedback

While AI can provide personalized learning paths, teachers are able to provide nuanced guidance and feedback through direct interaction with students . They can adjust teaching methods based on students’ specific backgrounds and learning styles to make learning more effective.

Development of social interaction and communication skills

Education is not just about knowledge transfer, it is also a socialization process . Teachers help students develop communication , cooperation and teamwork skills in the classroom . This kind of human interaction cannot be completely replaced by AI.

Cultural understanding and background knowledge

Teachers can adjust teaching content and methods according to different cultural and social backgrounds to ensure that students can understand knowledge in a specific context. AI often lacks flexibility and cultural sensitivity in this regard .

“Cooperation” between teachers and AI

With the rise of AI in the education industry

The role of teachers is also gradually changing

Knowledge Transmitter

In this role, teachers are mainly responsible for imparting existing knowledge and skills to students. In class, the teacher's task is to systematically explain the course content and ensure that students master the basic knowledge .

Knowledge Guide

Teachers not only impart knowledge, but also guide students on how to learn and think . Teachers stimulate students' interest through questions, discussions and project activities, helping them master learning methods and develop critical thinking skills .

Knowledge Innovator

In addition to guiding students to learn existing knowledge, they also actively participate in knowledge exploration and innovation . Teachers have interdisciplinary knowledge and work closely with various new educational tools , such as AI tools, to create a richer, more flexible and more personalized learning experience for students.

The curriculum model for innovators

Considering the high efficiency of AI technology in some aspects

K Education integrates new media with education

The ZOOM platform is the software used by K Education courses. Compared with other large video platforms, ZOOM has the following advantages:

1. The audio and video quality is high-quality and stable , and it adapts to changes in network bandwidth to achieve intelligent echo cancellation and audio noise reduction.

2. The system is complete, simple and friendly . It supports various mainstream user terminals at home and abroad. The interface is simple and friendly. No professional training is required and you can get started in a few minutes.

3. The conference function is powerful, the management is simple , it has strong audio and video interaction capabilities, rich real-time sharing functions and multimedia discussion methods.

Our teachers often use these new media and technologies to innovate classroom teaching methods. For example, they use screen sharing to display teaching content, use multi-user digital whiteboards for interactive collaboration, create session documents for post-class summary and sharing, and use the automatic transcription function of video conferencing to help record classroom discussions.

In addition, teachers also flexibly use learning software , integrate various resources, set questions, etc. to fully optimize the teaching experience. Through the application of these technologies, the classroom is more lively, diverse and efficient.
